there’s a flickr meme about Lolita covers. This is mine. I have no idea how to get it into the group tho! I think that would take me a fair bit of time to figure out.

I had considered myself so much as deformed at times, and I times I have been. I realize now I only have minor scars.
I’m doing more sketching lately, on the blank pages in between work projects. I’ve found the only way to trick myself into having fun drawing a convenience store is to let myself also draw whatever I else wanted. What came out today was a dark meditation of my pain! How Gothic~! This is a journal type sketch of all my worst physical injuries, minus a few broken bones and concussions, with a scoop of embellishment.
And while drawing some parts still frightened me in a familiar way, I also found it soothing. Because I have healed. And I remember how resilient a body can be.

The Adventures of Poppycock and Boulderdash.
This is the new big deal, a comic strip that will soon have its own website, animations, and if you love it enough and clap your hands, life! The whole comic is plotted out as a contained story, and every strip has a punchline that we find knee slapping. I formally invite you to open your hearts, minds, and chuckle pusses, wide for:
Harrumph! The Adventures of Poppycock and Boulderdash
Words, Primarily : Riley Michael Parker
Pictures, Primarily : Carolyn Main
Click on any comic to make bigger. There is some detail there!
And! We have 15 strips. Ready to go. We are looking to find a print home in every alt weekly worth it’s salt. And we will have a webcomic presence, it is in the works. Please help me welcome Poppycock and Boulderdash into the world, hurrah.
“Boulderdash is a cock. Poppycock is a prick. Plants and robots are nearer to each other on the moral spectrum than most people would like to think. “ ~ Nicholas Gurewitch
“Carolyn Main combines the sexy with the toxic, and the offensive with the adorable in a brand new, compelling way. And the comic she’s doing with Riley Michael Parker is good too.” ~ Scott Allie

So, those of you who know me, know I <3 Tim and Eric Awesome show, great job. They make some epic comedy that has turned a harsh magnifying glass on our terrible culture. Eric has a character, my namesake, Carol, and she has boss problems. Though Dick is attracted to Carol, he hates her and himself for it. But, eventually, they overcome his shame and get to falling in love, to some smooth Aimee Mann tunes.
A wise friend recently imparted the following truth to me: “Every world of fiction and media has its pornographic dimension.” Yes, Tony fucked Angela, and maybe even Mona, on Who’s the Boss. Yes, Alf’s fingers comb through his crotch fur when he’s alone and Fraggle Rock is on. And, yes, in the Awesome Show Great Job universe, you had better believe there is some getting of it, ON. They have infected my brain and I had to draw it. Forgive me.

“half the drawings you do are of yourself”
Ah, stuff it though. The Portland Review asked me to do a little one, in that they are featuring many artists’ portraits. Ifind it interesting to see artists and compare and contrast that to how they look, everybody’s style seems almost to come from the wiered ways that person looks, then the person learns how to draw, then, all the drawings miiiight be traceable to the artist and their particular features. Mebbe. ITs unproven. Any how!

Something green, so it looks the same coming out as it did going in.
This is something I drew a few years ago, when I was playing around with my style, and learning programs. Not a drawing of high concepts, so much as whimsical thang.

So, I doodled this, then had fun, then decided to finish it. Y know, while I was supposed to be doing something more productive. It’s only this year that I’ve really understood the black and white, screwball romantic comedy. There is something so lush about those films, and how amazing are the old STARS? There was a reason we used to call them stars. I know Cary Grant married five times, was rumored to be gay, AND got in trouble for spanking his wives, but you watch Arsenic and Old Lace and you tell me he’s not perfect. So, all that musta been in my mind when I drew this.
Catch the sexual subtext? Subtle, for me, actually. and, while Black and White is thematically correct, here it is through a red lens.
Although in truth, I really did it in color. Crazy 60’s warms, to be exact.
It is hard not to futz with the all colors, all the time, forever. I’m kinda amazed I ever get anything done, and choose one way. This time, I didnt. Pick your favorite!

I wish I had thought of this on my own, but, I don’t live in a bubble. Portland is a wild and thriving town for learning something new, especially if you go the right parties. It was on Halloween night that I actually encountered my new favorite Christmas myth: The Legend of the Poop-Man.
I first heard tell of The Poop-Man when I noticed peculiar party favors adorning the pockets of a party I attended. Upon entering, there was a blanket out with chocolate chip cookies, and a casserole dish with…Usually I want to eat cookies when I see them, but these cookies, at this party, they were right next to shit.
So realistic was this shit, that I did not have to the fortitude to verify that it was real. Didn’t stop my friends though, and verdict? REAL HUMAN SHIT IS NEEDED to conjure Poop Man. Also, they had a glass of pee/apple juice? I didn’t check that either. It should be noted that the process for checking the nature of the shit included wafting
The cookies and feces were next to children’s notes asking Santa for gifts, and imploring The Poop Man to take their mother to space, respectively. The mother, Poop Man was told, leaves her children in the bath too long, among other unspeakable crimes.
So, this year, this is what you get from me. The continuation of POOP MAN. If you wish to honor this new demi god this X mas, you know how to make an offering. You probably get faster service if you donate the higher quality/quantity, thanksgiving related, specimens.
On an interesting side note, my mother is moving away to California for an exciting job and new life.
THANKS, Poop Man!

So, when Vicki and I get our shiz together, we hope to have the most darling crafts to sell you. I drew her portrait for our eventual “about us” section.
I’m happy with the likeness.

So, I am also an art enthusiast. I’m moving down the street, so before I pack my paintings, I wanted to share a snapshot. Here, is my tiny collection of original art I’ve purchased/acquired/absconded with. Each one is about 5 inches big. ![]()
From Left to Right:
Sarah Oleksyk (pug Cerberus) print
Shannon Wheeler (Boner and Cat) water color
Jeremy Tinder (Sad Little Elephant) acrylic
Al Columbia (Creeper) ink
Graham Annabel (Nosferatu Trifecta) acrylic
Those aren’t the official names, either. I’m not sure the pieces have names, actually. So, maybe those are the official names. I own them, so maybe i get to say such things. Finders Keepers, Whiners, Creepers.
Any how, Enjoy!
I certainly do.

so, they want a bio and pic, for the Bridge. This is what I did. A mean grin, with glam. I traced a pic of my real face too, so it would be fair. Tooned it a bit, but yeah. I felt like bringing back the tiara. Which, I wore when I was hosting the stumptown awards, because I won the 07 comic arts battle. Fair enough?
Whhhooooo knoows what it’d take to pull me back into the ring of battle. I’m getting so used to etching names wrong, making people cry, and cavorting around dressed like a drag queen, that I don’t even need to draw to be a monster of domination. All I need, is SHOWMANSHIP!

this is a colored panel from the Bridge Anthology, I’m surprising Jesse with it. Hits a lot of the Pheremones we’re playing with. That… sounds like more fun than it is.

Wow, so I’m in a book club with the fantastic Joelle Jones, and lookit how good her art is! She drew a princess and the pea, which reminds me of the one I did a year ago. I looked for it, and only found a low quality sketch, so I did another draft.

ooh, a swear! A new precedent. I hope you, the dear reader, is impressed by this finery I’m rolling out, in honor of the Smart Bitches who read trashy books. They do a mighty useful service over at that site, letting you know about rollicking romance novels before you ever even have to read them. The book covers that they… cover, are absolutely amazing, and I got the privilege to illustrate such trash for the upcoming book. (the watermark, a new thing for a free wheeling broad like myself, is to ensure their bought and paid for images. That’s just the quality of work we do over here in carolynmain land)
Then, for you thinkers, we have a CHALLENGING MAZE that will take you on an EPIC JOURNEY. Only the brave can survive the perils of romance. Love is a battlefield.
Also, since we are at it, who wants to see the Evolution of the leading man? I know I do.
Now, how am I qualified to bring you such silly images, you ask? I happen to have modeled for pulp novels to put myself through college.
Don’t judge.

So, I’m Finishing up some new illostration work, which I shall be posting shortly.
But now for somthing completely different. Many of you have not seen this wood burn I did, representing Silent Night, Deadly Night, in the days of you. Ah, I’d call it two years old as well. And yes, it’s completely un seasonable. Deal with it.
Also, HINT. It is going to be a prop in a very exciting video show I’m brewing with my bros. Funny stuff, Trust.

This one goes out to the Ladies. Another Golden Oldie coming right ‘atcha. I did this one… what, 2 years ago? Time f’in goes by, don’t it?
If I may be so bold, this one goes great with listening to Sugar World, by the Magnetic Fields. Whom, yes, I cherish.
Oh, Mr. Merritt, to be your beard. Actually, can some dark wizard please resurrect Freddy Mercury, so he can marry Stephen Merritt, and I can, heck, be their maid or something? In house portraitist?
Or, yeah, I’d take a time machine to candy mountain with young Elwes here, provided the unicorn didn’t need us to be virgins. Did you know he voices the Baron in the American dub of the cat returns? As if I could stand it. Like I didn’t already grow some whiskers for th Baron. Yeesh.
The offer stands.

hola amigos. It’s been a while while I rapped at you. So, Im posting old things! Maybe you have yet to seen them! So, here’s oldie but goodie number 1.
May I name drop? A certain, and reputedly dreamy, Mr. Gurewitch, walked off with a print of this at Stumptown. So, you know it’s quality.

This is a new one, SFW, even. Show it to your kids, I’m being nice.
Would a carrot on a fishing pole be too obvious? Actually, sausage would be a better doggy goal. But, maybe the pug just wants to fly. I think she may be doing it for doings sake, which you would believe if you knew ms Pompoonette.

3 posts in a day. I’m between assignments, apparently. Okay, now it’s back to hard work project number 1. but first, more cheese cake.
I’ve had this idea since high school, and now I can draw it well enough.
Dreams do come true.

I drew a drawing of a song I like. I was caterwauling it while walking the Misses last night, under a full moon. I’m all kinds of mooney lately. You get to try to guess which song it is. HINT- it’s really easy if you know the only 3 bands I listen to all the time.
There shall be prints available at city hall, this first Thursday, if you are so inclined.
